A live training for therapists
Two chair work can be one of the most powerful moments in a session, and one of the most intimidating to actually try. This training gives you a real case to work with, room to practice, and a second session to come back with what happened when you used it with your own clients.
with Tom Bruett, LMFT, CST & Fiona O'Farrell, PhD, LMFT, CST-S
January 8 & February 12, 2027 · 6 CE hours · Replays included · $197
One registration gets you both sessions. The first is where you learn it. The second is where you come back and make it your own.
Part One
Friday, January 8, 2027 · 9am–1pm PT
We'll start with a preselected case so everyone is working from the same material. You'll get teaching on the how and why of Chair Work, and then you'll move into small breakout groups to practice with that case. You leave having actually done it, not just watched someone else do it.
Part Two
Friday, February 12, 2027 · 12–2pm PT
About a month later, we regroup. Tom and Fiona lead a follow-up and practice session where you can bring what came up when you tried Chair Work in your own sessions, ask the questions that only show up once you've used it, and get more practice in.
Part One is 10am–2pm MT / 12–4pm ET.
Part Two is 1–3pm MT / 3–5pm ET.
Most of us have sat through a great training, left feeling inspired, and then never quite used what we learned. There's a real gap between understanding a skill and using it with a client sitting across from you.
Splitting this into two sessions gives you time to try two chair work in your own practice, and then come back to a room of colleagues to talk about how it went. That second conversation is often where the learning really lands.
This is for therapists who want to bring more experiential work into the room. Maybe you've never tried two chair work. Maybe you've tried it and felt unsure what to do once your client was actually sitting in the other chair. Either way, you'll get structure, practice, and feedback.
Across the two sessions, you'll get:
he/him
Tom is a therapist, trainer, consultant, and the author of The Go-To Relationship Guide for Gay Men (Jessica Kingsley Publishers). As founder of the Queer Relationship Institute, he trains therapists who work with queer relationships. His work is deeply informed by his training under Drs. Ellyn Bader and Peter Pearson in the Developmental Model.
they/them
Fiona is a systemic therapist, clinical sexologist, and sex educator with over 15 years in relational and sex therapy. Their work is rooted in full-spectrum identity work, consent, shame resilience, and queer-affirming care, and they love helping clinicians learn to love their work from a developmental perspective.

Yes. This training offers 6 CE hours across the two sessions from CAMFT and AASECT. You must either attend each session live OR take the quizzes after each missed portion. Â
Yes. Replays of both sessions will be available in your course portal after each session, so you can rewatch the teaching or catch up if something comes up.
The two sessions are designed to build on each other, so we strongly encourage you to come to both live. The breakout practice and the Part Two conversation are where a lot of the learning happens. If you have to miss one, the replay will be there for you.
It will be helpful to have basic understanding of chair work for this training. This is not an introductory course. Â
Refunds are available up to one month before the training begins, so through December 8, 2026.
